This is a smooth surfaced wood that makes for a beautiful background for the poem along with the paw prints, name, birth and passing  dates of your cherished and beloved pet.   Poem reads: "If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again." Four brass screws seal the bottom plate for security, and there are pads on the underneath surface to protect furniture from scratches.
