Books have been used to entertain, inform, persuade, and everything in between. When life gets rough sometimes we have trouble seeing the big picture. Books can be full of wisdom and advice to help us get through tough times. Here are a few books that can help with coping with whatever life throws at you:

How to Live: A Search for Wisdom from Old People by Henry Alford: In this collection of advice, author Henry Alford squeezes in over 70 interviews from every type of person imaginable. They are all very different but all have had experiences worth sharing.

You Can Have it All by Arnold Patent: Published in 1995 this book has collected its fair share of dust yet not lost any of its value. This book of advice focuses on the basic things that make up a joyful life.

The Secret by Paul Harrington:Not only has this book thrived, a movie has been made and several other books have been published by the same author. The Secret explores ideas behind attitude and the power of thought to completely change your views on life.

Life is Good: Lessons in Joyful Living by Trixie and Dean Koontz: This short but sweet book is written from the point of view of Dean’s golden retriever, Trixie. She gives her advice that is funny in some parts and simply true in other parts. This read is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki: In this book the reader follows the stories of 3 people. The author, his biological “poor” father, and the “rich” father of his best friend. Throughout the book he compares the strengths and faults of the two lifestyles while sharing financial and life advice. Attitude is highlighted as the key to success and readers close the book with a new sense of money and what it means to live.

These books aren’t the only things that may work to give you the perspective you need. Our history is littered with pain, suffering, war, poverty, and unfortunate circumstances. Sometimes the only thing we need to do is realize how much we have at our fingertips.

The helpful advice in these books make them worth adding to your personal library. Life is complex and a fresh look can put things into perspective.
