Fashionable Wallets
Long before leather men's wallets became known, leather pouches were used since coins were the only currency known. Wallets emerged during the 1600s after paper currency, which was made of corn paper, became popular in the West. The first leather wallets were very resilient, and they came from cow or horse skin.
Our modern mens leather wallets that has all these card slots were nonexistent until credit cards were created in the early '50s. The most notable variation in wallet varieties was probably in the '70s when Velcro was first introduced. In 1995 Ken Obenski designed a thinner wallet, but now you will find leather wallets in a vast number of designs, shapes, and colors.
Leather wallets that can be concealed in other than the usual places-even on a leather string to hang around the neck and underneath the clothes—became common in the wake of increases in robbery and especially identity theft.
