The beautiful Blackberry Raku Urn is a hand-thrown ceramic stoneware cremation urn made by a skilled artisan in the Pacific Northwest. The wet clay is impressed with leaves and berries of the Blackberry plant. It is then covered with a crackle glaze and Raku fired. The shape and design of this urn makes it a truly unique piece of memorial art that fits with any decor. The process of Raku firing differs from other firing methods because the pots are removed from the kiln at their maximum temperature and placed in a bed of straw, leaves, or other organic material. The red hot urn ignites the material and the container is sealed. The fire, smoke, and oxygen starved atmosphere create the textures and colors unique to Raku. Each Raku urn is a totally unique piece of art; no two will ever be alike. The lid can be temporairly sealed using QuakeHold putty or gel. If you want to permanently seal the urn, use a few drops of any household epoxy such as Krazy Glue or Gorilla Glue.
