The beautiful Fern Ceramic Raku Urn is a hand-thrown ceramic stoneware cremation urn. The wet clay is impressed with fern leaves, covered with a crackle glaze, and then raku fired. This cremation urn is very unique and makes a wonderful memorial for one who loved ferns, the forest, or nature. This urn is made by a ceramic artist in the Pacific Northwest. The ancient process of Japanese Raku firing differs from other firing methods because the pots are removed from the kiln at their maximum temperature and placed into a container filled with straw or leaves. The dry plant material bursts into flames and then the container is then sealed. The flames, smoke, and oxygen deprived atmosphere transform the glaze into the unique colors and textures of Raku.
